Poetry Little Magazine

I looked through a few different organizations of the Poetry little magazine, and settled onto the 1929 one. What stood out to me as a difference from the other magazines I had the pleasure of looking through was the lack of advertisements. And on top of this, rather than taking out advertisements to raise money for the publication, they were instead giving out prizes to authors that were featured in the publication. From what I was able to find, the money for both the contests and the fees and costs associated with publishing were from what seemed to be donors.

I like this dynamic within the magazine, because it felt nice to be able to have the poems uninterrupted and have each author’s work contained into it’s own little section. On the other hand, I found it enjoyable to be able to see the advertisements in The Dial, to get an idea of the different type of literary magazines that were also happening at this time, and how they may have intersected with each other. Especially with limited resources to look thought from the time, being able to find information about what was happening outside of one specific publication is interesting.
