Stein’s Interview for The Little Review

The picture I have attached below is of Little Review, an avant-garde magazine publishing the confessions and letters of over fifty popular art figures of the 20th Century. Stein’s interview was quite fun to read. Her sarcastic nature and wit shows through the responses. Before the beginning, she suggests wanting to talk about Jane instead. After a google search, I found out that she was most likely talking about Jane Heap who was Stein’s friend and literary agent. However, they make her answer the questions instead and she does so in a way that would have been a nightmare for the interviewer. I am guessing they did not have PR teams back then. On multiple occasions, her responses lacked clarity, offering nothing more than a ‘because I am,’ without further explanation. In fact most of the interview answers in that review seemed strange, playful or ambiguous. But I would much prefer to read these answers, as they seem at least truthful than something inauthentic.
